 June 06 2019

There are two popular buzzwords in today’s agricultural world--“ICTs” and “precision agriculture.” ICTs or Information Communication Technologies are the infrastructure and components that enable computing. Precision agriculture, on the other hand, is a farming management concept that is based on observing, measuring and responding to inter and intra-field variability in crops. Joined together, these two concepts are being slowly adapted to increase crop production, efficiency of land use, reduce the production costs, maintain the quality of the environment while improving the sustainability of food supply.

On August 5-9, 2019, FFTC and the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) will gather scientists, researchers and technicians from different countries to talk about “ICTs for Precision Agriculture” with special focus on rice farming. To be held at the MARDI Headquarters in Selangor, Malaysia, one of its aims is to strengthen strategic collaboration among academia, research institutions, and the private sector.

Invited speakers will talk about topics on soil nutrient mapping, use of drones for field monitoring in rice farms, food traceability and the state of precision agriculture in some countries in the Asian and Pacific Region.
