FFTC and the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VAAS) jointly organized the international workshop on "Enabling Capacity in Production and Application of Bio-pesticides and Bio-fertilizers for Soil-Borne Disease Control" which is ongoing in Hanoi, Vietnam. A total of 23 speakers and hundreds of participants from eight    countries are participating in this activity.

During the opening ceremony, FFTC Director Dr. Kuo-Ching Lin stressed that the task of the Center is to promote sustainable development of agriculture and resource management in the Asia-Pacific region. This is through the exchange of agricultural technologies and sharing of experiences in workshops and seminars. This particular workshop is the first of two FFTC activities for this year in Vietnam. The other is the workshop on Dragon Fruit industry value chain and marketing" (Dragon fruit network: marketing and the whole value chain), which is slated to be held near Ho Chi Minh city sometime in September.

On the other hand, VAAS president Dr. Nguyen Hong Son, in his welcome remarks, pointed out that through Vietnam's national policy, the output value of agriculture in in the country from 2010 to 2018 grew five times, especially in the area of crop production. According to Dr. Son how to maintain the sustainable development of agriculture in this transition is therefore more important, and a great challenge to Vietnam's agriculture industry.
