On September 27-28, 2018, the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO), FFTC and the Monsoon Asia Agro-Environmental Research Consortium (MARCO) will hold a symposium on “Climate Smart Agriculture for Small-scale Farmers in the Asian and Pacific Region.” This will be at the Tsukuba International Conference Center in Tsukuba, Japan.

The said symposium aims to promote extensive research and development on the environment especially where it concerns sustainable agriculture. Through the years, NARO and MARCO have been engaged in climate change related research forecasting prediction of impact on agriculture due to global warming, establishment of a decision support system for crop management that can flexibly respond to climate change, and development of greenhouse gas emission reduction technology from agricultural fields. All these will be the focus of discussion in the symposium.

Other topics which will be tackled include the establishment of impact assessment method, which can show the influences of the changes in the environment, farmland and crops and cultivation systems, evaluation method of ecosystem services and impact assessment plan of invasive alien species and pesticides, monitoring technologies, etc.

Twenty six speakers from different countries are expected to participate in the said symposium.
