FFTC has recently tied up with the Faculty of Economics, Kasetsart University in Thailand to organize an international seminar that aims to bring together key researchers on value-adding activities, specifically in the promotion of rice farmers’ market.

The international seminar entitled “Promoting Rice Farmers’ Market through Value-adding Activities,” which will be held at Kasetsart University in Thailand on June 5-9, 2018 will focus on rice and the rice marketing system in different Asian countries. Rice experts from Japan, Malaysia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, the Philippines, India and Indonesia are expected to discuss topics on roles of farmers’ groups, agricultural cooperatives, private companies in promoting value-adding activities like contract farming and rice processing.

Information on consumers’ preferences, specifications of rice standards and quality certification in Asian countries, sustainability of production, geographical indication and linkages of rice farmers to various markets are just some of the topics that will be discussed in the said upcoming international seminar.
