This organization, based in Japan, replaced the Tropical Agricultural Research Center (TARC). It is one of the 29 research institutes belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF). It is a research center dealing with agricultural issues from an international perspective. It implements research programs pertaining to agriculture, forestry and fisheries in collaboration with various organizations located in the developing regions of the world. These research programs aim to help the target countries achieve sustainable development of agriculture, forestry and fisheries compatible with the preservation of the environment on a global scale.
