FFTC: Images pf 2017

Officers of Panasonic Corporation (The Eco Solutions Company) in Japan visit the FFTC office to exchange information on
agricultural technologies, particularly their greenhouse technology which they use for growing leafy vegetables and tomatoes. 

A farewell buffet dinner hosted by FFTC is held at the end of the Vietnam seminar. Great thanks to Dr. Vu Dinh Ton,
Dean of Faculty of Animal Science, for his great leadership in helping organizing this seminar. 

FFTC Director Dr. Kuo-Ching Lin welcomes all the guests and participants to the international seminar on
“Enhancing Agricultural Cooperatives’ Roles in Response to Changes in Food Consumption Trends” at the Mellow Fields hotel in Taipei city.

FFTC Director Dr. Kuo-Ching Lin is invited by Director Dr. Yao-Ting Jen of the Japanese Political and Economic Institution of
Tamkang University to attend a seminar on the topic of "The Agriculture of Japan and Taiwan 20 Years from now -
Building Future Food Industry."Seminar speaker is Professor Masayoshi Honma, Department of Economics,
Division of International Economics, Seinan Gakuin University. He is also an honorary professor of Tokyo University.
He made an analysis of main issues in Japanese agricultural and food sector and makes policy recommendations.

Director Dr. Kuo-Ching Lin is invited by the International Center for Land Policy Studies and Training to deliver a three-hour lecture on
"The Challenge of Food and Agriculture in Developing Countries in the Era of Globalization." This is a four-week training program for
land and agriculture to government officials from all over the world. It is the 136th Regular Session on Agricultural Development and Policy.

Dr. Synan Baguio, Supervising Science Research Specialist and Officer-in-Charge, Livestock Research Division of DOST-PCAARRD,
Philippines, pays a courtesy call to FFTC Director Dr. Kuo-Ching Lin. The two leaders discuss past and future collaborative projects
between FFTC and PCAARRD, most especially in the field of livestock production and marketing and other pertinent issues in Asian agriculture.

FFTC Director Dr. Kuo-Ching Lin  is interviewed by the Taiwan local media at the International Seminar on
Enhancing Agricultural Cooperatives' Roles in Response to Changes in Food Consumption.

Eng. Wassfi Hassan El Sreihin, Secretary General of the African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO),
and Dr. S.M. Ovais, AARDO's Head, Capacity Building and Development Division, pay a courtesy call to FFTC Director Dr. Kuo-Ching Lin.
The leaders of both organizations discuss possible areas of collaboration and linkages in the future. AARDO, which was formed in 1962, is an autonomous intergovernmental organization comprising of African and Asian country members. Also present during the meeting are Ms. Tracy Tarng and Ms. Liz Nien from the International Organizations section of Taiwan's Council of Agriculture and Mr. Ronald Mangubat, Information Officer of FFTC.

Korean fruit scientists visit FFTC as they conduct exploratory studies on how they can export peaches to Taiwan.

Representatives of the Philippines' Department of Agriculture Region VII,headed by Dr. Anna Delza Barimbao and Ms. Joy Ebarita,
visit FFTC as part of their exposure trip to study the marketing of vegetables in Taiwan. Dr. Kuo-Ching Lin, Director of FFTC, brief the two
DA representatives on the history and operations of the fruits and vegetables auction market in Taiwan.

FFTC Director Dr. Kuo-Ching Lin visits the top officials of the World Vegetable Center at their main headquarters in Shanhua, Tainan. There, he meets Dr. Marco Wopereis, the Director General of the Center, Dr. David Johnson, Deputy Director General for Research, and Dr. Yin-fu Chang, Deputy Director General for Administration and Services. The three officials give a briefing to Dr. Lin about the current activities of the Center and also engage in exploratory talks on possible joint activities they could embark on in the future.

FFTC Director Dr. Kuo-Ching Lin delivers a progress report to the members of the  advisory committee of the Agricultural Policy platform project. He also makes suggestions for possible reform direction. Advisory committee members include Agricultural Policy Research Center Director Dr. Jen-Der Huang, President of Rural Economics Society of Taiwan, Professor  Min-Hsien Yang and Professor Wan-Yu Liu from Department of Forestry, Chung Hsing University.

Dr. Masaaki Tanaguchi, scientist at the Institute of Grassland Science, NARO, Japan receives a certificate of appreciation from FFTC Director 
Dr. Kuo-Ching Lin. In the Vietnam seminar, Dr. Tanaguchi delivers a presentation on
Development and Utiliziation of Genomic Information for Effective Pig Production—Recent Achievements and Future Perspectives."
 

Mr. Tsung-Hsien Lin, Minister, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan, talks to FFTC Director Dr. Kuo-Ching Lin during the
2017 Executive Board Meeting. Minister Lin is the Chairman of the FFTC Executive Board. 

Forty-nine Filipino delegates representing the Philippine pig industry attend the Pig Genetic Networking between Philippines and Taiwan. The network aims to open more doors to the pig industry of both countries. FFTC Information Officer Ronald Mangubat and FFTC Agricultural Specialist Dr. Wantien Tsai attend the opening of the network conference.

The Center holds a farewell party for FFTC's agricultural economist, Dr. Chan-Ik Chun, who retired and returned to his home country in Korea on July 1, 2017. Dr Chun first worked in FFTC from 2001 to 2004. He returned to the Center in 2013 and headed the FFTC-AP project.

Director Dr. Kuo-Ching Lin pays a courtesy call to the officers of the Korean Mission in Taipei headed by Mr. Ki-Jun Park,
Deputy Representative who is now the new Executive Board Member of FFTC.

 

 

Director  Dr. Kuo-Ching Lin meets Chairman Angelito Banayo, Representative of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO)
during the celebration of the Philippine Independence at the Shangrila hotel in Taipei. Mr. Banayo is also a member of
the FFTC Executive Board. MECO is the defacto embassy of the Philippines in Taiwan.

 

A Philippine delegation from the University of the Philippines at Los Baños and the Benguet State University,
headed by Dr. Cristina Bajet (7th from left) visits FFTC Director Dr. Kuo-Ching Lin. The Philippine delegation, most of whom are agricultural chemists, visit Taiwan for a study tour of agricultural markets and to be updated on the Rapid Bioassay Pesticide Residue technology which is being undertaken by TARI-COA.
