Project 8: FFTC agricultural policy platform (FFTC-AP) (Year 5)

The ffifth year of the AP Platform has made some progress enhancing the qualities of articles by improving the review process and more interactions with the contracted partners. There have been 124 articles accepted and 92 uploaded between Nov. 18, 2016 and Nov. 30, 2017, with 21 articles translated into Chinese and 6 published in the COA magazine. The total accumulative number of hits since the establishment of the AP website in Aug. 2014 is over 3,500,000, and the average hits per day from August to November 2017 is 5,719, showing a 80% increase compared with the same period in 2016. The number of registered visitors as of Nov. 10, 2017 is 7,421 which is 81% higher than a year ago (4,064 as of Nov. 10, 2016). Among the registered visitors, the Philippines (27%), Malaysia (13%), and Vietnam (7%) are the top three countries, whereas the American visitors are the most frequent surfers.

Major findings and recommendations:

  1. Most of the respondents are satisfied in AP website. The online survey conducted in 2017 revealed the following: “Satisfied” 54%; and “Very much satisfied” 42%.  Some (26%) suggested to “Provide more information”;
  2. Americans are the main customers of the FFTC-AP website. They comprise 44% of the top 100 regular visitors who most frequently visit the site. The rest include Russia (15%), Germany (11%) and Dominican Republic (10%);
  3. Significant increase of the registered visitors from Europe, Japan and Korea; 
  4. Established a clear evaluation standard and a competitive payment system with contracted partners to increase the quantity and diversity of the paper submission; 
  5. Conduct more in-depth data survey and study to know more about the information needs of the website customers;
  6. Increased the amount and quality of the full-length papers; and
  7. Recruited more articles from Southeast Asia countries including Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.

In a recent external review conducted two years ago, a lot of students, researchers and academicians find the
FFTC annual report to be a good source of information on agricultural technologies and policies.

According to a recent online survey, most of the respondents are satisfied in AP website.
The figures reveal the following: “Satisfied” 54%; and “Very much satisfied” 42%.  
Some (26%) suggest to “Provide more information.”

Registered members of the AP website are composed of undergraduate students,
researchers, graduate students, government officials, etc.

In 2017, there has been a significant increase of registered visitors from Europe, Japan and Korea.


The Center has managed to solicit more scholarly articles written by agricultural economists and
researchers from countries like Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.
