Rationale:
FFTC partnered with APIMONDIA Regional Commission for Asia and partly sponsored the APIMONDIA 2016 Symposium: Exhibits and Workshops on Indigenous Bee Species. This is also jointly organized by the Beekeepers’ Network Philippines Foundation, Inc. (BEENET Philippines); University of the Philippines and the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Agricultural Research. This symposium will provide a forum for bee researchers, policy makers, farmers, and beekeepers around the world to discuss topics related to bees and pollination, and to share their beekeeping practices and experiences. The specific objectives of this event are as follows: a) to present informative talks on advancements in the field of pollination, bee biology, beekeeping extension and economy, and bee product development; b) to conduct a workshop on the mass production of stingless bees and hive product processing; c) to forge a collaboration among nations on pollination studies and d) to generate resources and information to support Project INSPIRE (Initiative to Sustain and Protect Indigenous bee species to Restore Ecosystem services).
Objectives:
- To co-organize the regional (Asian) Apimondia symposium
- To sponsor two Taiwan Experts and two FFTC staff to participate in this international event
Description of major activities:
